Bursaries for Taught MAs 2018

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (AHSS) at the University of Limerick, Ireland, is offering a number of Scholarships, Fellowships, Bursaries and Fee Waivers to MA and PhD candidates.

The awards will take effect from September 2018.

Department of Sociology is offering six bursaries of €1,500 for students undertaking a Taught MA with the Department of Sociology, in the following areas:

  • MA in Sociology Youth, Community and Social Regeneration (Course Director: Martin Power, email Martin.J.Power@ul.ie)
  • MA in Sociology Applied Social Research (Course Director: Mary O’ Donoghue, email Mary.ODonoghue@ul.ie)
  • MA in Gender, Culture and Society (Course Director: Sinead Mc Dermott, email Sinead.McDermott@ul.ie).

To be considered for these bursaries, applicants must: submit a 700 word essay outlining the applicant’s reasons for applying for the MA programme, expectations re the MA and detailing why the bursary would be significant for them. Essays should be submitted by email to the relevant course director by noon on Friday September 28, 2018. (Ref: BURSOC)

 


 

School of English, Irish and Communication is offering up to four €1,000 bursaries for taught MA applicants in the following areas, two for MA in English and two for Graduate Diploma/MA in Journalism.  To be considered for a bursary for the MA in English, applicants must:

  1. Have applied for the MA programme through the University of Limerick Graduate School (http://www.ul.ie/graduateschool/courses/arts-humanities-social-sciences).
  2. Submit an 800-word (maximum) writing sample  to the Course Director, Dr Tina O’Toole, by email: Tina.OToole@ul.ie,  copying cc@ul.ie. The sample should consist of a literary-critical response to a text (it may be an extract from an essay or project submitted during the applicant’s final year degree programme).
  3. Include a short personal statement (200 words) outlining the applicant’s reasons for applying for the MA programme.  (Ref: BUREIC1)                                                                  

 

To be considered for a bursary for the Graduate Diploma/MA in Journalism, applicants must:

  1. Have applied for the MA programme through the University of Limerick Graduate School (http://www.ul.ie/graduateschool/courses/arts-humanities-social-sciences).
  2. Submit a 500 – 1,000-word writing sample to the Course Director, Dr Henry Silke, by email: Henry.Silke@ul.ie, copying cc@ul.ie. The sample should be a journalistic feature article on a subject of the applicant’s choice (an article previously published by the applicant in a newspaper/magazine or blogpost is acceptable).
  3. Include a short personal statement (200 words) outlining the applicant’s reasons for applying for the MA programme (Ref: BUREIC2)
