The International Yeats Society hosted its annual gathering in at the Casa Convalescència in Barcelona, Spain at the end of December this past year. While maintaining the primary focus of the Barcelona symposium on Yeats’s relationship with Asia, the symposium featured a wide range of fascinating research presentations given by Yeats scholars from many different countries and backgrounds. The panel topics ranged from discussions on Yeats’s relationship and connections to Vedantic philosophy, Indian symbolism, Tagore, and Japanese Noh as well as a panel on Yeats’s A Vision. The symposium also highlighted a live performance of Yeats’s The Cat and the Moon. In addition to this live performance, the symposium featured a screening of a documentary about the Sligo based Blue Raincoat Theatre Company’s production of The Cat and the Moon with the director, Niall Henry, in attendance to present the documentary.

IYS 2016

By hosting the symposium in Barcelona, attendees were exposed to many different facets of arts and humanities including Spanish culture, architecturally iconic buildings, and historical points of interest. All of this provided a well-rounded experience and the broadening of horizons that ultimately contributed to the expansion and enrichment of our global academic community. Overall, the second meeting of the International Yeats Society concluded with great success.

The next conference of the International Yeats Society will take place in New York City 20-22 October 2017.
