MA Contemporary Dance Performance Students take part in the Lighting Design for Dance Project with the Lir Academy, Liz Roche Company and Dance Ireland.

Students from the MA Contemporary Dance Performance at the Irish World Academy took part in an exciting new learning initiative with MFA students in Lighting Design from the Lir Academy Dublin in a supportive and resourced teaching environment to learn about and experiment with lighting design for dance productions. Mentored by choreographer Liz Roche and lighting designer Sinead Wallace, with Dr. Jenny Roche (Course director MA Contemporary Dance Performance) the dance students, Yumi Lee, Melissa Bori, Adrika Subhash and Wu Fei,  were paired with lighting design students to develop and produce new choreographic works, which were then showcased in a performance at the Lir Academy in January. The project also included two professional freelance contemporary dancers, Roisin Whelan and Sarah Fennell (a recent graduate of the MA Dance Performance). This project gave the MA Contemporary Dance students an opportunity to work with industry experts in a theatre setting to gain real-world experience of dance production.
