Internships for UL Law students

Áine Cooke, a third year Law plus student, has been selected for the prestigious CRCC Asia internship offered by the School of Law in conjunction with CRCC. Áine has just completed her cooperative work placement with the Immediate Office of the Registrar, Kosovo Specialist Chambers and will return to her studies in the School of Law in January. Áine has previously won the A&L Goodbody prize and was a recipient of the UL40 scholarships based on her Leaving Certificate results. Áine will complete a legal internship in China in summer 2020. Dr Norah Burns Co-Director of Clinical Legal Education congratulated Áine on a very strong application for the internship and commented on the high standard of applications from third and fourth year students.

Dara O’Brien and Siobhan Comyns have both been offered paid internships by News UK and Ireland. The Mark Sinclair Internship will allow the students to work with Hugh Hannigan Editorial Legal Counsel of News UK and Ireland in January 2020. News UK and Ireland publish The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times. As part of the internship competition the students wrote on the topic of ‘Does Ireland need statutory guidelines as to the amounts that can be awarded to defamation claimants?’ Applicants were then shortlisted for interview in News UK and Ireland’s office in Dublin. Dr Norah Burns Co-Director of Clinical Legal Education in the School of Law organised the internship competition with Hugh Hannigan of News UK and Ireland.
