Two UL Creative Writing lecturers shortlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards

Many congratulations to our Creative Writing colleagues Professor Joseph O’Connor and Professor Sarah Moore Fitzgerald, who have been shortlisted in the An Post Irish Book Awards.

Joseph’s book Shadowplay was shortlisted in the RTÉ Radio One Listeners’ Choice Award category, championed by Ryan Tubridy. Sarah’s book A Strange Kind of Brave was shortlisted for Specsavers Children’s Book of the Year (Senior).

Joseph O’Connor said of his colleague Sarah Moore:

“In addition to being the best Creative Writing teacher in Ireland, Sarah is a wonderful novelist, and this book is a knockout. I am overjoyed to see this recognition for Sarah.”

The An Post Irish Book Awards celebrate and promote Irish writing to the widest range of readers possible.  Each year it brings together a huge community passionate about books – readers, authors, booksellers, publishers and librarians – to recognise the very best of Irish writing talent. 

The shortlist was announced on 24th October, and the winners will be announced at the gala ceremony in Dublin on Wednesday 20th November. Highlights of the awards event, presented by Miriam O’Callaghan, will be will be broadcast on RTÉ One television on Saturday 23rd November, immediately after the Ray D’Arcy Show. 

The public can cast their votes on anpostirishbookawards.ie before the 13th of November.
