The University of Limerick will host an Argentine Cinema Series this October. The festival is supported by the Embassy of Argentina in Ireland and the School of Modern Languages and Applied Languages.

The film tells the story of Carlos Gutiérrez, an Elvis impersonator in Buenos Aires, struggling to balance his daytime job and family life with his obsession for the “King of Rock and Roll.”

The film (a Caméra d’Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival) is a low-key road movie that sees a truck driver, who routinely transports wood from Paraguay to Argentina, having to bring a passenger (and her 8-month baby) all the way to Buenos Aires.

One of the founding works of New Argentine Cinema, the film tells the story of Rulo, a crane operator who loses his job at one of the hardest economic moments in the history of Argentina.
