Ten Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences PhD candidates took part in the Faculty heat of UL’s Thesis in 3 Minutes competition this afternoon. Organised by  the Graduate School at the University of Limerick, each student was given a strict 3 minutes to tell the audience about their research at UL.

Dr Ann Ledwith, Dean of Graduate Studies and Professional Education, introduced the event, and announced the three finalists:

  • First place: Muireann Prendergast ‘The Dirty War of Words: A Study of Print Media Discourse on Argentina’s Last Military Dictatorship 1982-1983’, supervised by Prof. Helen Kelly Holmes and Dr David Atkinson
  • Second place: Kathryn Hayes: ‘Freelance Journalists in Ireland’
  • Third place: Milena Cosentino ‘Holocaust: repercussions and legacy for future generations’, supervised by Prof. Anthony McElligott and Patrick Ryan (Psychology)

Congratulations to all our students, especially the three finalists, who will go through to the University of Limerick final at the end of May.
