Symposium on incarcerated hunger strikes at Kilmainham Gaol

Ciara Breathnach (Department of History, UL), along with Niall Bergin (Kilmainham Gaol), Ian Miller (UU), and Laura McAtackney (Aarhus University), has organised a symposium on hunger strikes at Kilmainham Gaol.
Hunger strikes/striking present a range of political, ethical, medical, physical, emotional and gendered problems. As such, they prove difficult to historicise and commemorate. Incarcerated Bodies is a symposium which provides an opportunity for academics (national and international), museum and gallery experts and key stakeholders to discuss issues relating to the incarcerated body and food refusal.
Supported by the Irish Research Council New Foundations scheme.
DATE AND TIME: Thu 13 October 2016, 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Kilmainham Gaol, Inchicore Road, Dublin
