First Fulbright Research Scholar at the Popular Music and Popular Culture Research Cluster

The Popular Music and Popular Culture Research Cluster at UL are pleased to announce the arrival of their first Fulbright Research Scholar.

Dr Melissa Hidalgo is a Visiting Fulbright Scholar and will be working with members of the Popular Music and Popular Culture Research Cluster.

Her research is focused on transnational pop music fandom, specifically US Chicana/o and Latina/o fans of Morrissey; musical collaborations between Irish traditional musicians The Chieftains and Mexican-Chicana/o artists such as Lila Downs and Los Lobos; Mexican mariachi renderings of Irish popular music by Morrissey and The Smiths; and literary relationships between Chicana writers like Helena María Viramontes and Irish writers such as James Joyce.
