This video was part of the University of Limerick MA in Sociology – Critical Perspectives on Youth, Community and Social Regeneration Spring 2016 seminar series. It features Lorenza Antonucci (Teeside University) with the talk ‘Student lives in crisis: deepening inequality in times of austerity.’ More videos from the seminar series can be viewed here.

This seminar presentation revolves around the changing context of youth transitions in the crisis, and will be informed by evidences from comparative studies and from an in-depth study on young people in university conducted in England, Italy and Sweden. The presentation shows that inequality is increasing among young people as a result of welfare state cuts, the decreasing capacity of labour market sources to sustain young people’s semi-dependence and the over-reliance on family sources.
